Research Platforms

The Institute of Soil Science houses major supporting infrastructure, multiple laboratories, observation and research stations to encourage our students to put theories they are learning in the class into practice.

  • State Key Laboratory of Soil & Sustainable Agriculture

    The State Key Laboratory of Soil and Sustainable Agriculture was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2003, and passed the inspection in 2005.
  • National Engineering Laboratory of Soil Nutrient Management

    National Engineering Laboratory of Soil Nutrient Management was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in 2011.
  • National Engineering Laboratory of Soil Pollution Control and Remediation Technologies

    The National Engineering Laboratory of Soil Pollution Control and Remediation Technologies was established with the approval of the National Development and Reform Commission in 2016, aiming at the control and remediation of farmland soil pollution and the safe production of agricultural products in China.
  • Key Laboratory of Soil Environment and Pollution Remediation

    The Key Laboratory of Soil Environment and Pollution Remediation, Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in 2008 at the Institute of Soil Science.
  • The Key Laboratory of Arable Land Conservation

    The Key Laboratory of Arable Land Conservation was established and authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2011. It established a research and application network to study the arable land conservation over the major agricultural production areas in China.
  • National Agro-Ecosystem Observation and Research Station in Fengqiu

    The station was founded in 1983. Located in Fengqiu, Henan Province, it is a key station of China Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), one of the first batch of national observation and research stations of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and a national experimental station of agricultural environment observation of the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • National Agro-Ecosystem Observation and Research Station in Yingtan

    The station was built in 1985 and it became a key station of Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) in 1989, the national agro-ecosystem observation and research station of the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2005, and national agricultural scientific observation and experiment station of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 2019.
  • National Agro-Ecosystem Observation and Research Station in Changshu

    Founded in June 1987, this station is located in Changshu City, Jiangsu Province. Being one of the key member stations of both the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) and the National Ecosystem Research Network of China (CNERN).
  • National Agro-Ecosystem Observation and Research Station in Hubei

    It was founded in 1998 under the coordination and organization of the Executive Office of Three Gorges Project Construction Committee State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the Zigui Ecological Experiment Station of the Three Gorges Project, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

  • Soil & Environment Analysis Center

    The Soil and Environment Analysis Center is accredited by China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) and China Inspection Body and Laboratory Mandatory Approval (CMA). It has more than 110 advanced analytical instruments specializing in laboratorial analysis and testing related to soil and environmental sciences.

  • Soil Museum

    Founded in 1953, the ISSCAS Soil Museum is one of the largest Chinese soil museums. The Museum exhibits the diversity of soil samples across the country from Tibet Plateau to East China Sea Shelf, from North China forestry to South China Sea. It has one of the richest collection of 60,000 soil samples, including 100 monoliths and 50,000 samples preserved in the storage room that provide a unique full-scale data and a knowledge base on soils.

  • Library

    The library was founded in 1953. It provides specialist literature for scientists, employees and students of the Institute. Soil science and related disciplines are the focal points of the collection. The stock comprises more than 230,000 books with 2,134 types of periodicals. In 1979, the library was designated as Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States Depository Library.
