11th Academic Conference on Soil and Groundwater Risk Control and Remediation Techniques for Contaminated Land Held in Shenzhen

From 11 to 15 August 2023, the 11th academic conference on soil and groundwater risk control and remediation techniques for contaminated land & the 10th training course for soil and ground water risk assessment techniques of contaminated sites were hosted by the Technical Center for Soil, Agriculture and Rural Ecology and Environment (TCARE) of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Soil Science Society of China (SSSC) and the Institute of Soil Science, CAS (ISSCAS) in Shenzhen with more than 500 people from governments, environmental consultant and engineering companies, testing institutions, research institutes and universities.

During the conference, distinguished experts and some government leaders were invited to discuss topics related to the theme including “Management system and policies of construction land environment”, “Causes & mitigation and transformation mechanism of land water and soil pollution”, “Multimedia environmental pollution early warning, and control and remediation in chemical industrial parks and mine”. On the training course, scholars from TCARE, ISSCAS, Guangdong Academy of Environmental Science, Shenzhen Academy of Environmental Science, University of Newcastle, Suzhou University of Science and Technology and some companies tutored knowledge in risk control, remediation strategies and its effect evaluation for typical contaminated land, risk control on new pollutants, risk evaluation theories of contaminated land, pollutant solute transformation and mitigation mechanism, etc.

The conference and training course’s success helps to improve soil pollution prevention and control theories and their application, develop green remediation, thereby facilitating the sustainable growth of soil remediation industry.
