The NSFC-EU “Enhanced and Innovative in Situ Biotechnologies for Contaminated Land Remediation (EiCLaR)” Project Meeting Convened in Nanjing

On November 7, 2023, the EiCLaR Project Meeting was organized in Nanjing with over 80 attendees including representatives from the Division of European Affairs for NSFC Bureau of International Cooperation, ISSCAS, EiCLaR Technical Advisory Committee, Chinese and European teams, etc.


The welcome speeches were made by Ms. Jie Shen, officer of the Division of European Affairs for NSFC Bureau of International Cooperation, Prof. Ying Teng, Director of the ISSCAS Division of Research Planning and Cooperation, and Prof. Frederic Coulon, representative of EiCLaR Technical Advisory Committee. Prof. Yongguan Zhu chaired the project status meeting where Profs. Tim Vogel and Xin Song presented the projects research area, progress and achievements, followed by reports from Chinese and European teams leaders. The experts reached a consensus on more mutual exchange and cooperation to promote technology bottlenecks breakthrough and their application.

The members of both sides had a further discussion about future work priorities and cooperation plans. They also visited the demonstration site in Zhangjiagang, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Research Center for Eco-environmental Engineering, China State Construction.

About the international (regional) cooperative research project of NSFC

The international (regional) cooperative research project of NSFC is an initiative to fund scientific and technical scientists for international and regional collaborations under the framework of an inter-organization agreement with overseas funding organizations (or research institutions and international scientific organizations). The funding mainly serves for the sustainable development of a country's economy, society, science, and technologies. Through selecting key scientific issues of strategic significance, pooling innovative forces, and funding multidisciplinary comprehensive research and interdisciplinary research, the level of fundamental research in China, together with other regions and countries will continue to improve significantly, especially in cultivating high-level talents and overall international competitiveness in the global world.
