Background
Soil pollution is an increasing problem internationally, particularly in developing countries in South East Asia which are undergoing rapid industrialisation. The SOILREM 2004 Conference will be held in Nanjing, China on 9th-12th, November 2004. This conference follows the highly successful SOILREM 2000 Conference held in Hangzhou, China in 2000. The conference is dedicated to explore and discuss contemporary and emerging issues in the risk assessment of inorganic and organic pollutants in soil, and the science, technology and management for soil remediation. International experts will be invited to give keynote speeches. The conference will provide a forum for professionals, regulators and students to present their most recent findings and to discuss up-to-date developments, methodology and analytical techniques with colleagues from around the world, and will be an excellent opportunity for stimulating international co-operations in this field.
Conference topics cover important aspects of risk assessment, and fundamental research and innovative technologies for soil remediation, such as bioremediation, phytoextraction, and phytostabilisation. Target pollutants include inorganic pollutants, heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, oils, petroleum hydrocarbons, etc.
Themes
² Risk assessment of pollutants
² Bioremediation of organic pollutants
² Phytoremediation of inorganic pollutants
² Remediation of radionuclides
² Metal fixation and bioavailability
² Organic and inorganic amendments
² Remediation engineering and management
